This is how we teach children about money

Guest lectures

What you learn as a youngster will last until you are old. It is important to teach children how to handle money well at a young age. This gives them a solid foundation to make the right choices and thus prevent money problems later in life. Financial education is not a standard part of the curriculum. By offering employees the opportunity to regularly give guest lessons, we help children to learn something about the concept of ‘money’ at an early age and to develop financial skills. In this way, we contribute to a financially carefree life for later. We do this with our partners Eurowijs and Bank voor de klas.

Eurowijs

In 2013, de Volksbank started making teaching materials about money available to schools for free. Since then, our employees were given the opportunity to give guest lessons at schools. No fewer than 1.5 million pupils in primary, secondary and special education have become acquainted with Eurowijs teaching materials since then. As of 1 January 2025, the Eurowijs curriculum has been placed in an independent foundation. The foundation now ensures the further development of the teaching materials and will continue to provide schools with the free teaching materials. De Volksbank remains affiliated with the Eurowijs foundation as a partner. Visit: Eurowijs.nl.

Bank voor de klas

Our employees also contribute to financial independence in adulthood with the Bank voor de klas program. Employees of Volksbank can register as guest lecturers to teach children in the classroom how to handle money. Bank voor de klas offers specially developed lesson programs and interactive guest lessons for primary education, intermediate vocational education and secondary education. The Bank voor de klas platform is a collaboration between 22 Dutch banks. On this joint platform, banks offer their lesson materials for the various types of education that contribute to the financial independence of children. Visit: bankvoordeklas.nl.
